All Christian Owned Businesses Are Invited
Just last month, my wife and I launched a business directory for Christian owned businesses. We’re starting first with Christian owned businesses in Arizona, and if the Lord wills, we’ll be expanding nationwide. This is far more than a business directory for us, it’s a passion.
Galatians 6:10 was a large inspiration for us when it came to starting this Christian Business Directory. The verse states “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”. This means that God commands us to be kind, but also to show partiality or favor to Christian owned businesses when possible. If I’m about to spend thousands of dollars on a home renovation project, or backyard improvement – I should at least first consider if there is a qualified Christian owned business that could help me with this job.
We are not saying that it is a sin to not first seek a Christian owned business, but it does seem like not doing so wouldn’t be treating others the way you want to be treated.
One difficulty with finding a Christian owned business is that there are few good resources to find them. Maybe your church doesn’t offer any sort of Christian Business Directory, or possibly you just moved to town and don’t have a good way to locate a Christian owned business for your project. This is one of the reasons we started on Team Jesus.
We’re well aware that there are other Christian Business Directory websites. In fact, in launching ours we researched many of them. And while we did find Christian owned businesses — many of them were no longer in operation. I would call the number listed for the Christian owned businesses and find out that it had been disconnected. I also tried emailing many of them, only to have the email bounce. Having a site with a bunch of non-existent Christian owned businesses is not helpful to anyone.
Our approach when it came to helping those that have a Christian owned business was that we wanted to provide more value than we take. This is why we chose to charge just $19 for a Christian owned business to appear in our directory. In addition, at the time of posting this article, we’re even offering further discounts for Christian owned businesses to sign up in the early stages.
This is a Christian owned business for us as well, and we do have a goal to make a profit. But that is not our primary goal. In fact, having a directory with devout, genuine, spirit-filled, people that are truly on TEAM JESUS is the goal. We care more about having authentic Christian owned businesses on our directory than making a few extra bucks. That being said, we’re willing to turn down a Christian owned business from showing up on our directory if we don’t get the sense that their devotion is genuine.
